no amount of talking about how real rednecks like anarchism and punk music or whatever the fuck will erase a) the cultural association of rednecks with poor whites in the south or b) the intrinsic violent racism that you can find in literally almost every poor white in the south
Im literally from the South and I hate those posts rednecks are very racist. Us black ppl cant even go to certain areas when its dark because of that so I dont wanna hear postive points bout them
The fact that these real redneck posts get well over 100,000 notes and this only has 2,000 is really telling on how willing y'all are to listen to black people.
I always find it funny when books like Harry Potter and Percy Jackson get crap for being ‘witchcraft’ and ‘anti-christian’ but you know who no one ever talks about? Phillip Pullman and his masterpiece His Dark Materials trilogy. Some of you may recognize the first book’s title, The Golden Compass from the awful movie adaption, but seriously those books are so so good and full of badass witches rebelling against the vadican for mutilating children, gay ass angels who join the rebellion so they can be free to love each other, an ex nun who escapes the oppression of the church to pursue a life of science, a little girl who is so good at manipulating she overthrows an entire empire in one day, and a 12 year old boy who murdersgod with a knife
Phillip Pullman is legitimately baffled that Christians got all upset about Harry Potter when he was writing HDM at the same time. And typically when authors have those themes, they still say in interviews that it’s just a story and/or their writing about religious corruption than religion itself. But Pullman just goes and says “If God as the Christians imagine him exist, it would be a moral duty to kill him” (paraphrasing)
As a Jew, I second that sentiment of Pullman’s.

HDM was considered an EXTREMELY anti-Christian book in my community. it didn’t get the same level of media attention as Harry Potter, but it was very much banned in many schools/churches. I remember that a lot of Catholics campaigned ruthlessly against it, especially when the movie was coming out

I live in Carrollton, Georgia. Yes, the famous home of those two racist kids on tiktok that showed you guys how to make black people and were trending on twitter and all of that. Anyways…
Last week we had a peaceful protest for Black Lives Matter and for the reform of the police as we know it. We were on the local news and everyone praised us for “doing it right” and “showing all those ‘hateful’ people how it’s done” and all that sappy bullshit.
Fast foward a week (today, June 9th 2020) and the city council had a council meeting (I believe they hold these every month) and there was a lot of racism and blatant ignoring of other people’s input there. Before the meeting had even begun, a white officer had been yelling at a black man outside the courthouse and hit his car. All of this explained in this facebook post.
We seriously need help. We are a small, deep south town. Racism runs so rampant here and I’m scared it’ll stay the same. We’re trying to get our mayor out of office. He is extremely bigoted in ALL aspects and the mayoral seat is not up for re-election until 2023. Please help us get him out of this position. We desperately need to get this extreme bigot out of here before he really gets someone hurt.
There is a possibility that I’m going to leave this account. I think I need a new tumblr to be honest. I love this username, but unfortunately real life people know it and I want one single piece of social media that no one I know could be watching my every move, trying to invade my privacy on as many levels as they like.
